We had an absolutely beautiful fall morning to visit Whitetail Farms with Greg Leenderts. Greg was not raised on a farm and was asked to come back to Hills during freshman year of college to helps his uncle, who had some medical issues, on his farm. Greg never looked back and embraced farming. From the beginning he named his farm "Whitetail Farm" not knowing where he would end up. First as a cattle farmer, then expanding to many micro businesses such as custom chopping, round baling, planting and manure hauling. Greg told the young professionals as long as he had the equipment why not use it to create more cash flow? Greg has now honed into one business of raising deer. Deer are considered an exotic animal so Greg has to follow the same procedures and protocols as a zoo. Greg has always been an avid outdoorsman who enjoys natural hunting. Whitetail Farms sells deer in Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Kentucky. Along with the deer Greg has a small hobby farm of Longhorn cows. The black cow is a pet who when we approached was in the middle of the pasture and came running and speaking to Greg. The unnamed longhorn felt the need to be in the center of our photo. Thank you to Greg and Laura for the new knowledge and peaceful beginning to our day.
