Abbie Fey's 4-H project always centered around wildlife. She knew her work would be centered around nature and she graduated from SDSU with a degree in wildlife and fishery biology. It wasn't until she was working with a graduate student on a project tracking deer that she learned about taxidermy. Abbie was interested in the art, so between her junior and senior of college she attended a summer taxidermy class in Edgerton, Wisconsin. When she came home she was frustrated with her first creations but with time and repetition she has mastered the craft. Abbie opened Second Nature Taxidermy in Edgerton 21 years ago. In 2018, she moved the business out of her house and into a new shop. Abbie now mounts about 130 deer a year and 16 bear. She spoke to our group about the federal and state DNR regulations and paperwork, chronic wasting disease, the tanning process and customer service. Thank you for the very interesting and informative business visit Abbie!
