The Bakken family has been farming in Rock County since 1941. Peter and Jay Bakken are third generation farmers who took over the operation in 2001. Both manage separate entities of the operation while working together to ensure growth and success. The weather and markets can be a frustration in this business but the Bakken's believe the rewards are worth the risk. Some wisdom shared was that it's easy to do business as long as you're easy to do business with, don't burn bridges, surround yourself with good people and know what you're good at and let others do what you don't enjoy. Anne Marie Bakken spoke to the young professionals about the misconceptions of farming , the importance of farming education and food tracing. Eli Bakken works with his dad and uncle and is essential to the understanding and use of technology on the farm. Thank you for the enjoyable morning and education about farming in SWMN!
